Pike Road Fire & Rescue

And

Ladies Auxiliary

Put your best foot forward, become a volunteer firefighter

It is a big pair of boots to fill but the Pike Road Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department is looking for individuals to volunteer with the Department.  Volunteer firefighters are trained to perform duties and respond to emergency calls.  Training is taught in fire extinguishment, ventilation, overhaul, extrication and medical aid duties.  Our volunteers respond to emergency calls including fire and rescue.

The rewards of becoming a volunteer firefighter make it all worthwhile.  People have their own personal reason for joining our department.  Some are driven by a longstanding family tradition, while others are seeking to build their own personal tradition of community service.  Whatever the motivating factor, there are many rewards, the greatest is a sense of belonging to a brotherhood what is unlike anything you have ever experienced.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter, please call 271-1048 station #1 (Wallahatchee Road) and speak with Chief Mike Green to learn more information.  We meet every Tuesday night for training and station clean-up.

The Pike Road Fire & Rescue Ladies Auxiliary Wants You --

The ladies auxiliary is looking for a few good ladies willing to share their talents and time to assist our fire department and community.  While the challenges are great, we are convinced that our team of 12 talented, committed ladies will bring many exciting events for our department members and their families to enjoy.  The auxiliary is a great way to make your voice heard and to become informed about what is going on in the fire department and ladies auxiliary.  There is strength in numbers!

One of the best ways to make a difference is to participate.  The ladies auxiliary meets the first Monday night of the month except when it falls on a holiday and we meet the second Monday night.  We meet at station # 1 at 6:30 pm.

Boston Butt Sale

The annual Boston Butt sale was held on November 14, 2009.  A special thank you to everyone who purchased a Boston Butt from the Department.  A great big thank you to each volunteer who donated their time in making this a successful event.  We sold 344 butts (a record) and raised over $4000.00.  All proceeds will go to benefit our volunteers.

Santa and Mrs. Clause Makes a Stop at Station # 1

The Ladies Auxiliary sponsored a Christmas tea on Sunday, December 13.  Special guest were Santa and Mrs. Clause.  In Santa's hour and a half visit over 50 guest stopped by.  Each child visited with the little old man in the red suit along with Mrs. Clause and informed them of their wish list.  The children had their photo;s taken with Santa and each received a gift bag.  The children also enjoyed the arts and crafts table as they created Christmas cards for their parents.  Thank you to everyone who made this event successful.

Ladies Auxiliary Celebrated the Spirit of Giving to Others

The hearts of the Ladies Auxiliary are filled with the spirit of giving as shown by the group sponsoring a family within the community who are less fortunate.  The Auxiliary selected a family which consisted of Mom and two little girls.  The ladies shopped and wrapped each gift the children were asking for.  The gifts were delivered on December 23 by the Auxiliary and  Firefighters along with Santa and Mrs. Clause.  The family was excited to see Santa arrive in the fire truck and were very appreciative of their gifts.  Thank you to everyone who participated in making this family have a wonderful Christmas!

Training

The department recently conducted a 40 hour First Responder Class and had 19 volunteers complete this training. This was a pre-requisite class to attending the Fire Fighter I certification class that is now underway with several of these individuals attending. This is a long and demanding curriculum that is certified through the Alabama Fire College and is being taught In-House by instructors that are also certified by the Fire College. A special Thank You to those individuals that have committed their time and talents to also attend and instruct these classes. This will make your Fire Department a safer and more efficient unit whereas both Fire and Emergency Medical Services are concerned.
