Pike Road Fire & Rescue

And

Ladies Auxiliary

Put your best foot forward, become a volunteer firefighter

It is a big pair of boots to fill but the Pike Road Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department is looking for individuals to volunteer with the Department.  Volunteer firefighters are trained to perform duties and respond to emergency calls.  Training is taught in fire extinguishment, ventilation, overhaul, extrication and medical aid duties.  Our volunteers respond to emergency calls including fire and rescue.

The rewards of becoming a volunteer firefighter make it all worthwhile.  People have their own personal reason for joining our department.  Some are driven by a longstanding family tradition, while others are seeking to build their own personal tradition of community service.  Whatever the motivating factor, there are many rewards, the greatest is a sense of belonging to a brotherhood what is unlike anything you have ever experienced.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter, please call 271-1048 station #1 (Wallahatchee Road) and speak with Chief Mike Green to learn more information.  We meet every Tuesday night for training and station clean-up.

The Pike Road Fire & Rescue Ladies Auxiliary Wants You --

The ladies auxiliary is looking for a few good ladies willing to share their talents and time to assist our fire department and community.  While the challenges are great, we are convinced that our team of 12 talented, committed ladies will bring many exciting events for our department members and their families to enjoy.  The auxiliary is a great way to make your voice heard and to become informed about what is going on in the fire department and ladies auxiliary.  There is strength in numbers!

One of the best ways to make a difference is to participate.  The ladies auxiliary meets the first Monday night of the month except when it falls on a holiday and we meet the second Monday night.  We meet at station # 1 at 6:30 pm.

Congressman Mike Rodgers phoned Chief Mike Green on June 9, 2010, advising that the PRVFD was being awarded over $35,000.00 in funds from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.  These funds are allocated to operations and safety.  The PRVFD will purchase additional firefighter gear.  The Department recently had 12 members complete a state certified firefighter’s course and the gear will allow them to fully participate in fire emergencies when called upon.  With the addition of these 12 individuals, our Department now has 65% of its volunteers certified through the Alabama Fire College.  Definitely something we can all be proud to say!  In addition to the gear, the Department will be able to purchase other needed items to assist in the safe and efficient daily operations of the Department.  An additional T.I.C. (Thermal Imaging Camera) will aide in the quicker searches for victims trapped and assist in locating hidden spot fires while limiting the amount of damage to the structure.  A truck load of rubber supply hose and a portable generator round out the list of items to be received.

The PRVFD would like to thank the Department of Homeland Security and Congressman Rogers for his continued support of this program.  Congressman Rogers’s dedication to the fire service is commended.

Pike Road Volunteer Fire Department Heroes Honored

The Pike Road Volunteer Fire Department held its annual Firefighter Appreciation Dinner and Firefighter Recognition Day on February 27, 2010 at Station # 1.  The dinner recognized all those who volunteer with  the Pike Road Fire Department.  The theme for the event was A Time to Honor Our Own Everyday Heroes and was coordinated by the Pike Road Fire & Rescue Ladies Auxiliary.

The guest speaker for the evening was Chauncey Wood, President of the Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments.  Mr. Wood also presented a ten year service medal to those who have ten plus years in the fire service.  These members included Chief Mike Green, Asst. Chief Eddie Young, Chip Vercelli, Scott Powell, Patrick Pugh, John Scanlan, David Livingston, Ty Glassford, Britt Grubbs, Ryan Moore and Jimmy Grubbs.

Other special guests included County Commissioner Reed Ingram and Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone.  County Commissioner Ingram presented a Firefighter Proclamation to Chief Mike Green and the other Pike Road Volunteers.  In addition to the Proclamation, two awards were given out.  Chief Green presented Robbie Olesen the Outstanding Service Award and BJ Green was named 2009 Firefighter of the Year.

Congratulations to all Pike Road Volunteer Firefighters!

Training

The department recently conducted a 40 hour First Responder Class and had 19 volunteers complete this training. This was a pre-requisite class to attending the Fire Fighter I certification class that is now underway with several of these individuals attending. This is a long and demanding curriculum that is certified through the Alabama Fire College and is being taught In-House by instructors that are also certified by the Fire College. A special Thank You to those individuals that have committed their time and talents to also attend and instruct these classes. This will make your Fire Department a safer and more efficient unit whereas both Fire and Emergency Medical Services are concerned.
